National Quitters Day
I was listening to the radio a couple of weeks ago and found out that the second Friday in January is National Quitters Day! What!!!!!? Apparently, research has shown that around half of the population abandons their New Year’s resolutions by that time.
Whether or not that is accurate, as believer’s I feel like we want to do better than the national average! WILD’s theme for 2025 is UNWAVERING!! I feel like this is a vital inward posture for us to take in a world that is ever changing and where instability is a cause for so much anxiety. We can only depend on God and His Word to keep us! One of my favorite Psalms in this regard is Psalm 121. I’ve stood on this Psalm and it has kept my heart and faith steady in several unnerving situations. (Psalm 121 TPT)
I especially like verses 7-8 out of the NKJV!
Our soul’s need preserving. We need the inner strength and stability only God can provide. The word translated both “keep” and “preserve” in more traditional translations is the Hebrew word shamar. It means to “to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. guard; generally, to protect, attend to, etc.” (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary). This word appears 7 times in this short Psalm and gives us resounding assurance that God, Who is our Keeper, will keep us; He will guide and protect us; He will guard and watch over us and He will do that forever!!
How can we end 2025 in the place we initially set our intentions for at the beginning of 2025? How can we keep our goals intact and accomplish the change we desire? There are a couple of great concepts that will help us to do just that.
#1 – Be Intentional!
This is a word that has been resounding in my heart and mind for the past several years. I sense the Lord desiring to work with us in greater and more impactful measures. For that to happen we must be intentional! We live in a world where the bombardment of distractions is ever increasing. For us to walk out God’s purposes and plans for our lives we must be intentional! (Ephesians 5:15-16AMP, TPT)
If we know anything, it is that change is not automatic. We must set our hearts and minds to the task! We must purposefully use our time and resources to the intended end if we desire to see the fulfillment! This is not a decision we make once; we must consistently reset our hearts and mind in the direction of our goals. This will probably be a required daily reset, especially at first. (Colossians 3:2 AMP)
In context, this verse is of course regarding spiritual things. However, this principle will help us to be successful in reaching our goals. There is truth revealed here that our minds need to be taken charge of and constantly turned in the intended direction! This is a similar principle to the one Paul was instructing the disciples with at the church in Rome to help them leave their old pagan ways and walk in God’s ways! (Romans 12:2 TPT)
Every year we set goals or resolutions because we want some things to be different in our lives. If we are going to experience that change in reality, we must set our minds in that direction and be intentional about walking it out!
#2 – Write the Vision! (Habakkuk 2:2-3 NKJV)
This is a verse that we often see at the beginning of the year. This year, I was astounded to notice this verse in a new way. It is God Who is saying: Write the vision! It is not a motivational speaker or a pastor on a Sunday morning! God is telling us: “the vision needs to be written down!” The vision must be written down so that we can run, so that we can accomplish and preform that vision! The writing comes first!
It’s time for us to run with the visions God has put in our hearts! But we must first take that vision or dream and write it down so that we can plainly see the way in which we are to run! (Jeremiah 12:5 NKJV)
I love this verse. “If you can’t keep up with the guys on foot, how are you going to run faster and keep up with the horses at a higher level?” I believe God is calling us to ascend in this new season! He wants us to accomplish more and live more accurately than we ever have! In order to do that we need a roadmap, a vision to plot our course! (1 Corinthians 15:57-58 AMP)
There is SO MUCH MORE! We must not settle but pursue God’s best and highest!! Much love from Mavis and all of us at WILD! (Psalm 20:4 HCSB)
